Hold onto your hats and glasses because changes are now in place at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic Kingdom. Find out how this will affect your next ride along the “wildest ride in the Wilderness.”
Big Thunder Mountain
Local legend has it that strange things began to occur following the discovery of gold in the 1850s. Reportedly, trains would move and race through tunnels by themselves. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can explore an abandoned mine shaft and board a train at the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Attraction.
Located in Frontierland, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is an exhilarating thrill attraction with many twists, turns, and even a friendly goat along the way.
This attraction first opened in Walt Disney World in 1980 and has quite a big fan following. Over the years short refurbishments have been completed, but now a lengthy refurbishment is set.
Refurbishment
Back in May, we indicated that big plans were in the works for the attraction. It was originally supposed to close in 2020 for some serious work. However, it only received some small updates.
Now a year-long refurbishment is set for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad starting on January 6, 2025. Work will include moving the tower and replacing some or all of the tracks. The final scene may also be upgraded.
Even though we are still several months before this attraction will close, work is now underway at Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. This weekend, a scrim was installed at the back of this attraction.
What to expect
Nobody loves scrim more than Disney. The idea is to help conceal work while guests can still enjoy the attraction, although it seems like the elephant in the room (so to speak).
This past weekend, Disney took beginning steps for the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for refurbishment.
Thankfully guests can still enjoy the attraction, even with the obnoxious scrim. It appears that preparation work is already underway to prepare for the upcoming refurbishment. We are hopeful that this will be the only eyesore for guests hoping to enjoy this attraction.
What do you think of the scrim now in place? Do you hope to enjoy this attraction before it closes next year? Share your thoughts with us and share this news with your Disney pals
