Typically Walt Disney World announces refurbishments and closures ahead of time, but this one took us by surprise. Find out which attraction is now closed off to guests and plan your next trip to Magic Kingdom.
Refurbishments
Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney Parks. These may take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment can take place for many reasons.
Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment may take a few days or several months. Although refurbishments occur throughout the year, Walt Disney World tends to begin many refurbishments in the slower months of January and February.
Disney announced big refurbishments in January 2025 for both Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom and the permanent closure of much of DinoLand USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Attraction Closure
Without any warning, black drapes surround the queue for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover (PeopleMover) attraction. The attraction did not open today for guests.
Typically an attraction will be listed as “temporarily closed” if it opened for the day and may reopen later that day. The PeopleMover is not displayed on the drop-down list for Magic Kingdom attractions today.
The Walt Disney World website shows no operating hours today for guests. This may be disappointing as this nostalgic attraction is a favorite for many.
What you need to know
With no official confirmation from Disney, this closure may allow maintenance to the lift ramps. At this time, Disney does have operational hours as usual for PeopleMover tomorrow. Fingers crossed that this unexpected maintenance will be completed quickly.
PeopleMover did not open today and it appears maintenance work is underway.
Walt Disney World reserves the right to change operational hours and close attractions and entertainment without advanced warning. It is wise to use both the My Disney Experience app and the Character Locator for updated wait times and temporary attraction closures.
What do you think of this unexpected closure? Which attraction would you head to instead of PeopleMover in Tomorrowland? Share your thoughts with us and share this news with your Disney pals.
