Disney+ continues to add new content for subscribers but with rising costs. See the big change coming to Disney+ next month and how this may affect your wallet in the future.
Disney+ Changes
Disney+ debuted in 2019 and has seen many changes over the years. Subscribers delight when new features are added, but typically new specials and added features come with price increases.
The most recent price increases came last month, see more on this HERE. Along with this, Disney CEO, Bob Iger, also promised that Disney+ would crack down on password sharing.
This week Disney+ celebrated its 5th Anniversary with a special surprise for select subscribers. However, every Disney+ perk appears to come with an eventual cost.
New Addition
Today during The Walt Disney Company Annual Meetings of Shareholders, Disney announced that a big change will appear on Disney+ on December 4th when a new ESPN tile will debut.
Even subscribers who are not an ESPN+ subscriber can enjoy some live sports and other ESPN programs.
The Walt Disney Company ended the last quarter with 174 million Disney+ Core and Hulu subscriptions along with 120 million Disney+ Core paid subscribers. This is a huge increase of 4.4 million compared to the previous quarter.
Price Increases
With this continued success and rolling out new content, the Walt Disney Company announced some not-so-magical news. Disney CFO, Hugh Johnston, shares, “We certainly look to continue to increase pricing based on the value we’re providing.”
“We certainly look to continue to increase pricing based on the value we’re providing” stated Disney CFO, Hugh Johnston.
When he shared this, it was as if you could hear a collective groan from Disney fans. The basis of content “value” may not be so valuable for all subscribers who feel that this streaming service is already a bit pricy. At this time, Disney has not released dates for a price increase, but it is clearly on the horizon.
What do you think of the ESPN tile? Do you see this as a “value” or wish you could choose what content you actually pay for with Disney+? Share your thoughts with us and share this news with your Disney pals.
