The Visitor Toll Pass offers visitors the opportunity to save money on Florida tolls. Find out how to use this easy money saving tool for your next vacation.
How to Get to Disney or Universal
No matter if you are traveling to Disney, Universal, or even the Florida beaches, you need a mode of transportation to get there. There are many ways to get to your Florida vacation destination.
Travelers arriving at Orlando International Airport offers many transportation options.
Some of our writing crews favorite ways to get to our Florida vacation destinations are Mears, other shuttle buses, ride share, and rental cars.
Rental Cars
My (Heather) favorite option is having a rental car. I had always used the Magical Express until its termination at the end of 2021. When Magical Express was no longer in operation, my family began looking for other options. We looked at various car rentals, car services, ride shares, and Mears.
At that time, we were able to find a great deal on a car rental. This also gave us the flexibility to go to a grocery store. We tend to stay in one-bedroom villas for the kitchen and make several meals in the room to keep our trips in-budget.
Having a rental car gave us the option to go to any grocery store or several if we wanted to, along with taking our own car to parks. This allowed us to come and go as we pleased. I absolutely love having a rental car when visiting Florida theme parks and the freedom it offers.
Please note we are not affiliated with any rental car company and are sharing personal travel experience.
What is Visitor Toll Pass?
So, you have now made the decision to get a rental car. With a rental car you will potentially have another expense beyond gas, which is a toll road. Depending on your travel route, you could go through multiple tolls on your way to your destination.
You have a couple of options to pay for these tolls, which include cash or through the car rental company. However, there is another way and it can save you money! For those traveling through Orlando International Airport, you can pick up and return a Visitor Toll Pass and save up to 80% (compared to rental car toll fees) on Florida tolls!
The Visitor Toll Pass is an alternative option to paying cash at the toll or using the pricey option through the car rental company. Visitor Toll Pass promises that you will pay the lowest toll rate throughout Florida!
How it Works
The Visitor Toll Pass works in four easy steps. First, you will download the app and reserve your pass.
Next, you will pick up your pass at the Orlando International Airport on your way to your rental car. Then, you will hang your pass on your rental car’s rearview mirror. Finally, when your trip is complete, you will return the pass at Orlando International Airport.
Currently, the Visitor Toll Pass works with the follow rental car companies:
- Alamo
- Avis
- Budget
- Dollar Rent A Car
- Enterprise Rent-A-Car
- Hertz
- National
- Payless Car Rental
- Sixt Rent A Car
- Thrifty
How much?
The pass itself is free to reserve and use, and there are no additional fees. However, there is an initial $10 deposit when reserving your pass. This deposit will be used toward your toll usage.
When you return your pass, if you owe less than $10 then the remaining balance will be refunded to you. If you do not return the pass, the $10 deposit will be used for the unreturned tag and not for any tolls you have accrued.
Where Pick Up Your Pass
There are multiple locations to pick up your pass in the Orlando International Airport. There are Visitor Toll Pass vending machines located near the car rental counters. You will find this on Level 1 in Terminal A and B, and on Level 4 in Terminal C.
To retrieve your pass, you will use the Visitor Toll Pass app and navigate to the reservation screen. You will then select “Scan QR code,” then scan the barcode at the vending machine and the pass will be provided.
Now head to your rental car!
How to Use
First, be sure to opt out of paying for tolls with your rental car company. Once you have the pass in hand, you will head to your rental. When at your rental car, you will update your license plate number in the app.
The app asks for state and license plate number of your rental. Next, you will hang your pass in the rental car’s rear view mirror. This MUST be done prior to leaving the rental car garage! You will receive a notification that your trip is live.
The Visitor Toll Pass must be hung from the rental car’s review mirror when leaving the rental car garage. Also, the pass must be displayed whenever going through tolls as to not have any additional toll charges from the rental car company.
Visitor Toll Pass recommends turning on notifications, so you can receive important reminders. They also recommend that you check the app to confirm the pass is working properly, which could take up to 90 minutes. Notifications will be seen on the app in notification center if there were any issues.
How to Return Your Pass
Your trip has come to an end, and it is now time to head back home. Upon entering the rental car garage you MUST remove the pass from the car. Rental car companies are not responsible for returning the pass for you, and you will be charged $10 if the pass is not returned.
You are responsible for returning the pass after the trip. The pass can be returned to a drop box or vending machine located throughout the airport.
The pass can then be returned in several locations throughout the airport. There are Visitor Toll Pass drop boxes in Terminal A, B, or C. The pass can also be turned at the vending machines, which as a reminder on located on Level 1 in Terminals A and B, and on Level 4 in Terminal C.
