The African lions have been a big presence for the last ten years on the savanna at the Kilimanjaro Safaris. They have created many memories for guests. Dakari and Kamari, the previous lions who were on the savanna, have been relocated to a conservation haven in Florida.

The two lions, Dakari and Kamari, are now enjoying retirement. They have been relocated to a conservation haven in Florida accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA).

These lions were more than just a presence on the savanna, they have also served as ambassadors for African lions. They have brought the opportunity for cast members to educate guests on ways to contribute to conservation and how to protect other animals. You can read more about their retirement HERE.

Attention everyone! The new lions have arrived, and are now on the savanna at Kilimanjaro Safaris. Mshango, Zahara and Neema, are siblings who now call Animal Kingdom their home.

The siblings arrived earlier this week and are making their presence known with their roars and playful spirit.

The new pride consists of two females and one male lion. These lions just turned two years old this past October.

With their arrival, Disney has relaunched the global “Protect the Pride” conservation campaign to support the Wildlife Conservation Networks’ Lion Recovery Fund (LRF). LRF and LRF’s partners are working to double the numbers of lions in the wild across Africa by 2050.

Possible Future Plans

These lions have an important role in the future of the lion population. Eventually, they could breed with members for another pride. This is part of Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Special Survival Plan. This program guarantees genetic diversity and responsible breeding.

I, Heather, cannot wait to see these royal lions perched on the kopjes rocks on Kilimanjaro Safaris. Be sure to be on the lookout for these beautiful lions, as they are sure to be a sight to see!
