Although the Disney Parks stay busy throughout the calendar year, there are slower times for the parks. With the growing list of refurbishments, it appears that January is “Refurbishment Month” for the Disney Parks.

Refurbishments are a part of life at Disney Parks. These take place for various reasons. Whether it be for mechanical issues or cosmetic updates, a refurbishment can take place for many reasons. Based on the nature of the work, the refurbishment takes a few days or several months.

The vast majority of refurbishments reopen as planned and on a few occasions, even earlier than expected. Unfortunately, refurbishments may also be delayed. This is frustrating for guests, particularly when a guest-favorite attraction is affected.

It seems that in the past several weeks, the majority of news is what attractions are closing. Some attractions are closing forever, such as over at DinoLand USA, while others are closing for a lengthy refurbishment.

Magic Kingdom will look much different in 2025. First, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is set to close for a year-long closure. Along with this comes a big change with the closing of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America.

Along with these closures at Magic Kingdom comes another multi-month refurbishment to Astro Orbiter located in Tomorrowland.
