Orlando International Airport, also known as MCO, is a bustling airport. MCO is a popular choice for travelers heading to or from Disney World or other Orlando theme parks because it’s only about a half hour away.

Airport officials are expecting a busy year-end holiday travel period.

The holiday season only makes this airport busier, and the holiday travel season is almost here.

This year, the 2024 holiday travel period runs 17 days. It starts tomorrow, Friday December 20th and goes to January 5, 2025. The airport is expecting a 1 percent increase over 2023’s numbers with a projected total of 2.9 million passengers during the travel period!

Saturday, December 28th is projected to be the busiest day of the holiday season with more than 192,000 travelers from arrivals and departures.

The five busiest days are

  1. Saturday, December 28th with 192,352 travelers
  2. Sunday, December 29th with 186,072 travelers
  3. Saturday, December 21st with 186,037 travelers
  4. Saturday, January 4th with 183,664 travelers
  5. Thursday, January 2nd with 182,801 travelers

December 28th is expected to be even busier than Thanksgiving weekend’s busiest day, but it still isn’t the busiest day at MCO. Check out MCO’s busiest day HERE.

With the projected crowds it is important to utilize the 3-2-1 timeline. This will help ensure you will be on time for your flight.

The 3-2-1 timeline is as follows: be at the ticket counter at least 3 hours before your departure time. Be sure to head to security 2 hours before your departure time, and be at your gate 1 hour before your departure time.

Other recommendations from airport include: downloading the MCO app, be patient, do not bring guns or weapons through security, do not leave bags unattended, if traveling with pets be sure to have them on a leash when the carrier is being screened, and be sure to place identification on the outside of all luggage (checked and carry-on).

Happy holidays and safe travels crew!
