Much Needed Changes Coming to Magic Kingdom’s Buzz Lightyear Attraction

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Range Spin will look different soon, and we are very happy about it. Find out what new changes are coming to this attraction.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin gives you the chance to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. This dark, spinning ride uses laser guns and targets to collect those points and save the day. Here is Disney World’s official description of the ride:

Board your XP-37 star cruiser and voyage deep into the Gamma Quadrant, where you’ll aim at the glowing “Z” targets with your infrared laser cannon. Use your cruiser’s joystick to spin 360 degrees to blast all the targets in sight.

This is a fun attraction for both the young and the young at heart. Ultimate Disney fans try to achieve “Galactic Hero” status on this attraction with a score of 999,999.

Upcoming Updates

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger spin first opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1998. At that time, this attraction was phenomenal, but over the years, it has been in dire need of some updates.

Disney Imagineering filed a new permit for the address location of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. In this permit, the Maddox Electric Company is listed as the primary contractor for this work.

This will be to “install projectors,” although it is unclear which projectors this may affect. We hope that this may be for the final tunnel near the end of this attraction.

Be Prepared

At this time it is uncertain if this attraction will close for this update or if work will be completed after hours. We are hopeful that the attraction will not fully close for a refurbishment.

Magic Kingdom has a few upcoming refurbishments to plan for in January with the Hall of Presidents, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Astro Orbiter.
