The Haunted Mansion is one of the most popular attractions Disney has created. It combines both “spooky” and “funny” elements to create a “haunted” experience that is uniquely Disney.

Haunted Mansion closed for refurbishment on January 22, 2024.

This attraction combines the work of some of the best Disney Imagineers in the company’s history to create illusions and tricks that bring Guests back again and again. Some of the attraction’s best tricks, like those in the ballroom scene, rely upon fairly old “technology” to create memorable illusions that still entertain guests every day!

The refurbishment included an expanded outdoor queue. This updated queue will now be more up-to-date with modern ADA standards, and also to handle the large crowds. The expansion also included the new Madame Leota retail shop.

You can read about the closure HERE and the expansion HERE.

The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park is set to open tomorrow, Saturday, January 18th.

There are two big updates with the ride’s refurbishment. The biggest update is with the attic scene, a new bride has arrived! The bride is now done with projections and appears to be floating. She also has a new story to tell.

This new bride is no longer a murderer who beheaded her husbands, she is now mourning the loss of her husbands. The pictures of her husbands remain, but their entire bodies disappear versus just their heads. This leaves Guests to wonder how the men have met their demise.

The imagery at the end of the ride has also been updated, this is the part when “a ghost will follow you home.” When Kim Irvine, creative director with Imagineering at Disneyland, was asked if the hanging corpse would be removed she replied “We’re still looking at that…That one is complicated, structurally … One thing at a time.”
