Disney at the Oscars
It’s almost time for the Oscars. That means the stars will be coming out to celebrate cinema.
But, the Oscars ceremony doesn’t just celebrate live-action films. The award ceremony also recognizes achievement in animation!
Be sure to tune in and cheer on your favorite nominees from the Walt Disney Company. You can watch the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET. It is set to live stream on Hulu for those who subscribe.
Disney Nominees
The Walt Disney Company received 15 nominations for the 97th Academy Awards. These nominations span across The Walt Disney Studios and include 20th Century Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Searchlight Pictures, and Walt Disney Studios.
Searchlight Pictures received 10 nominations, with eight for A Complete Unknown — including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Supporting Actress. The studio also earned two nods for A Real Pain, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor.
20th Century Studios received two nods for Best Visual Effects across Alien: Romulus and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. National Geographic Documentary Films captured a nomination for the Documentary Feature Film category for Sugarcane. Disney Branded Television received a nomination for “Never Too Late” from Elton John: Never Too Late, which is up for Best Original Song.
Inside Out 2
Probably the best-known of the nominees for our own Kenny the Pirate Crew is Inside Out 2! Pixar Animation Studios’ Inside Out 2, the highest-grossing film of 2024, was nominated for Best Animated Feature.
Inside Out 2 has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars.
However, the competition is going to be fierce this year. The Wild Robot from Dreamworks/Universal is also up for a nomination in the same category. This film was a surprise hit among audiences. And, Disney has not taken home the Oscar since 2022. The original Inside Out did take the award for 2016.
