One of Disney World’s Biggest Fails Now Quietly Removed

One of Disney World’s Biggest Fails Now Quietly Removed

Some of Disney’s ideas are mind-blowing and others are not so great. Now, Disney has removed the final element to one of its biggest entertainment fails.

For the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World, the parks were transformed with Beacons of Light, special meet and greet opportunities, fun treats, golden statues, and of course great entertainment.

Some of these additions were so popular that they have continued even after the conclusion of the 50th Anniversary such as the beautiful color scheme of Cinderella Castle, Disney’s Fab 50 golden character statues, and EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth nightly light show.

However, not all of the ideas went off flawlessly. In fact, one entertainment offering was cut short after many failed changes.

Kite Tails featured huge kites of our favorite Disney animal pals. The idea was a creative wonder, but the actual implementation was a bit flawed.

The kites would often crash into objects suffering damage such as poor, King Louie or fail to take off or land as planned. Disney attempted to rework this show several times but with no success.

Over the past several days, Cast Members have removed all of the wooden docks constructed for this show. At this time, the metal posts remain around the Discovery River, where the docks were located.

Plans for Discovery River

Sadly, the Discovery River no longer offers any entertainment to guests. The final flotilla was removed that once sailed along this river to entertain guests. Kite Tails ended in September 2022, and Animal Kingdom’s nighttime show “Rivers of Light” never returned after the 2020 COVID closure.

It is sad to see this large 5,000-seat amphitheater left largely unused for so long. At this time, Disney has not announced a plan for this space. It appears that the removal of these wooden docks is just general upkeep rather than preparation for a new show.
