When Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin first opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1998, it was phenomenal, but over the years, it has been in dire need of some updates. Finally, this attraction receives some much-needed love and care.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin

Located in the heart of Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin gives you the chance to defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg. This dark, spinning ride uses laser guns and targets to collect those points and save the day.
This is a fun attraction for both the young and the young at heart. Ultimate Disney fans try to achieve “Galactic Hero” status on this attraction with a score of 999,999.
The attraction still garners high wait times, but the overall quality of this attraction has dwindled over the years.
Buzz Lightyear Updates

In December 2024, we shared the news that a permit was filed “to install projectors” for this attraction by the Maddox Electric Company. We were hopeful that this refurbishment would not affect the attraction’s operational hours.
Thankfully, it appears that work was completed after park hours to bring updated digital projectors to the final tunnel near the end of this attraction.
When it was first opened, guests could see Emperor Zurg projected throughout this tunnel, trying to escape. Guests aimed to blast targets, but in recent years, this tunnel was anti-climatic for many as the projections were quite blurry. Now, with new digital projectors, this tunnel offers a great end to this attraction.
More Updates to Come?

As with most permits filed by Disney, the permit for Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was vague. It is unclear if this is the only change that guests may notice for this attraction.
New digital projectors are added to the tunnel near the end of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.
We are thankful for this much-needed change and that work was completed after hours. Now we can’t wait to try our aim on this attraction during our next visit to the Magic Kingdom.
