Disney appears to love this faulty ride feature. Although it creates a great effect, it causes the most popular attractions to operate with low reliability. Find out why the new Cars attraction will be more efficient and possibly even more popular.
Trackless Ride Features

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a fun attraction featuring “trackless” ride technology. This is similar to the ride systems, such as Rise of the Resistance at Hollywood Studios and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventures over at EPCOT. Disney loves this type of technology; however, one “disturbance in the force” can affect the entire attraction.
The great part about these attractions is that it seems that you are randomly moving throughout these attractions. This is a fun feeling, but it does have a few hiccups.
For example, one time, a guest accidentally dropped their cell phone while on this attraction. The entire ride stopped, and guests had to evacuate. Cast Members then must manually reboot each ride sensor throughout this attraction.
New Cars Attraction

Many people speculated that one of the new Cars attractions might be a clone of Disneyland’s Radiator Springs Racers. However, a recent announcement confirms that this will be an entirely NEW experience.
This attraction calls for the development and creation of all-new ride vehicles for a first-of-its-kind experience. “We’re using a customized production vehicle,” Hundgen said. “It has sensors all over it, and we’re taking it for test drives on our dirt track to gather data on how the vehicle responds to different terrain.
The use of “sensors” had many, including us, worried that a dreaded trackless ride may be used for this attraction.
Disney moves away from trackless ride

In a recent episode of “We Call It Imagineering,” the Imagineers shared that the off-road experience of the new car-themed attraction will use a track-based system.
The new Cars Attraction will use a track-based system.
Guests will experience bumps throughout this attraction that will allow the feeling of an off-road environment while still using a track-based system. This is wonderful news for the reliability of this attraction for guests to enjoy. Hopefully, it won’t need to close for hours due to light rain or early morning fog, like Test Track does.
A closing date has not been sent yet for the Rivers of America or Tom Sawyer Island. Although permits have now been approved for work to begin on this new attraction.
What do you think of the fact that this will be a track-based system? Do you think that this experience will be worth the demolition of Tom Sawyer’s island and the rivers of America? Share your thoughts with us and share this news with your Disney pals.
