Many guests prepare their touring plans well in advance of their visit to Walt Disney World. Temporary ride closures can greatly affect the best-laid plans. Earlier this morning we noticed that several attractions were unavailable to guests. The Fantasyland attraction has since reopened, but still, attractions in Tomorrowland remain closed.

Both Astro Orbiter and Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover are closed. Disney put a black curtain around the entrance of the PeopleMover which gives the impression that this attraction may experience extended downtime today.

Possible Reason for Closures

We now may have a reason for the closure of both Astro Orbiter and Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Magic Kingdom is set to open the newest attraction Tron Lightcycle Run on April 4, 2023. On Monday, Cast Members will enjoy special Cast Member preview dates for this new attraction.

But a select group of Cast Members receives a great preview opportunity. Starting today, February 3rd, Magic Kingdom-based Cast Members can step aboard Magic Kingdom’s newest attraction, TRON Lightcycle Run. Magic Kingdom Cast Members will enjoy a DJ, dining, and more as they enjoy this great preview.

It is a pretty good assumption that Astro Orbiter and Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover are closed due to this event. If this assumption is correct, both attractions will be closed throughout the weekend to reopen on Monday, February 6th. This starts all Cast Member previews, but the additional offerings will not be in place at Tomorrowland.

What do you think of the closure of these attractions? Do you think they will remain closed this weekend? How will this affect your touring plans to Magic Kingdom? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

When we were at Magic Kingdom on Thursday, we saw people on Tron. We asked about it and were told that Tomorrowland Cast Members were riding that day! A cast member at a gift shop told us her turn was the following day (Friday). Every cast member we asked said it was amazing!
